From the American Music Recordings Collection (AMRC)

This AMRC CD celebrates the music of five American women composers

They are examples of music by women from the 19th and 20th centuries

who had the gift of music composition

and their music deserves to be better known.

All the tracks are from the AMRC archive, an extensive library

of recorded music from earlier America.

This CD includes Five Premiere Recordings

and over half of the performances were recorded in live concerts.

Praise for this CD from a classical music listener:

 

I’ve been pleased to hear the excerpts from Amy Beach’s “Mass in Eb.”

The two Mass selections are quite pretty and should be appreciated by more people.

 The Parkhurst “Funeral March for President Lincoln” is appropriate for that time.

 I was not familiar with either of the Davis songs

and didn’t know her composition of “In the Bleak Midwinter” existed.

I’ve always loved the traditional Christmas carol setting.

 I like Ruth Crawford Seeger’s piano arrangements of the five folk songs.  

Hadn’t heard them previously.  

She had a productive life, as did others in that talented family.

“Give Good Gifts” is a lovely song that deserves more notice.

 No doubt you are helping it along.

As usual, you have done an excellent job to enhance these old recordings.
